One of the many important projects that the Glacier National Park Fund supports on an annual basis is reforestation throughout the park. You now have a unique opportunity to make a contribution directly to reforestation efforts at Glacier National Park. For $60 you can purchase a gift that will last for generations.

When you purchase a memorial tree, we will send a beautiful certificate to the recipient that explains who purchased the memorial tree for them and in which portion of the park the tree was planted. In addition, we will add their name to the appropriate list of recipients below. While ecological concerns and other factors do not allow us to mark each tree with the recipient’s name, you can feel proud knowing that you had a direct hand in the reforestation of one of America’s most beautiful places. By supporting the memorial tree fund, not only are you giving a priceless gift to your loved one, you also give a gift to the entire world. If you purchase a grove of 10 or more trees, we can arrange for a special memorial planting ceremony with a park horticulturist or a representative of the Fund.

Forest grove grows in living memory
of Park advocate

Bill and Diane McGinley had been married for 38 years when she passed away last December. For most of this time, they shared a love for Glacier National Park. While they did not live in Montana, they visited Glacier often, particularly after their two daughters, Bess and Julia, began to enjoy the Park as youngsters. Diane was very much at home in the Park. She would often say she was going for a walk to “talk to the grizzlies,” her way of connecting with nature and resurrecting her spiritual soul.

When she passed away, the family wanted to do something special to celebrate her life, so they bought trees through the Tree of Remembrance program. As more of Diane’s friends and family heard about buying trees, the idea grew from a small beginning into an entire grove of 42 trees — black cottonwoods, western larch and ponderosa pine — all for Diane McGinley. In July, Bill and his daughters, two granddaughters, extended family and friends gathered in Quartz Creek Campground with Joyce Lapp, restoration biologist, for a ceremonial planting and dedication to Diane.

There is no memorial plaque there — just 42 saplings, which will mature into a magnificent living memorial to Diane. Bill and his daughters call it Diane’s Grove, and they say it will live forever.
