The Society was founded in 1982 by a group of individuals
committed to preserving the history of Whitefish and the
Flathead Valley for the present and future. In 1990 the Society
acquired the Whitefish Railway Depot from the Burlington
Northern Railroad and Depot Committee was formed to oversee its
restoration. The Stumptown Historical Society supports the
